Stage 1: Hemostasis
Hemostasis is the body's immediate response to injury. Blood vessels constrict and platelets form a clot to stop bleeding, creating a protective barrier over the wound and establishing the foundation for the healing process.
Stage 2: Inflammation
During inflammation, immune cells are recruited to the wound site to remove damaged tissue, clear debris, and help protect against harmful microorganisms. This stage prepares the wound for new tissue formation and repair.
Stage 3: Proliferation
In the proliferation phase, the body begins rebuilding damaged tissue. Fibroblasts produce collagen, new blood vessels develop to deliver oxygen and nutrients, and healthy tissue gradually forms to support wound closure.
Stage 4: Remodeling (Maturation)
The final stage involves strengthening and refining the repaired tissue. Collagen fibers reorganize, scar tissue matures, and the wound continues to gain strength and stability as healing progresses.
